APS to Conduct Selection Process for Kenmore Middle School
APS announced at the Middle School Information Night on Nov. 5, 2007, that Kenmore would not be a “receiving school” for middle school transfers for the 2008-09 school year. Subsequently, due to miscommunication or misunderstanding, some parents were informed that the situation had changed and that Kenmore would in fact be receiving transfer students.
To resolve the situation, and to ensure equal consideration of all students who would like to attend Kenmore, APS officials have decided to conduct a selection process for a total of 47 countywide sixth grade openings at Kenmore. A lottery will be conducted on March 5, 2008, in the Kenmore library at 3 p.m. These 47 students, added to the sixth graders projected to attend next year from the attendance zone, will bring projected enrollment to 95 percent of capacity.
Students who already applied for a transfer to Kenmore for the 2008-09 school year will automatically be considered in the lottery. Additional requests for consideration must be submitted to the Kenmore Middle School principal’s office using the Pupil Transfer Application
no later than Mon, March 3 at 4 p.m.
The form is available on the APS website, , under “Registration” and is also available from any APS elementary or middle school. Normally, parents must attend a transfer orientation at both the neighborhood school and Kenmore. That requirement has been waived for this special process, but parents still must obtain the signature of the principal at their neighborhood middle school before they submit the transfer application to Kenmore.
